The Triangle East Amateur Radio Association
(TEARA) holds monthly amateur radio exams In Smithfield NC. Exams are given at the Red Cross offices in Smithfield, North Carolina. The Red Cross is located at 801 South Third Street in downtown Smithfield. For updates as to the location of the test session for any given month, you should contact either Norman Young or Tom Lewis. (See below.) The tests are on the 3rd Saturday of each month (with the exception of July and December, where there are no tests scheduled). There is no pre-registration requirement, and test registration begins at 9:30 A.M. sharp. 605 forms are supplied, and the test fee for 2006 is $14.00.
If you currently have a valid amateur license, you will need to bring your license and a photocopy. You will also need a picture I.D, such as a driver license, school, work, or military I.D., or D.M.V. issued I.D. card. If you are under 18, the team will also accept your photograph in your school yearbook as a picture I.D.
Morse code tests are administered using the fill in the blank format or one minute of solid copy. Copying of dots and dashes on the exam paper, followed by translation after the exam will NOT be permitted.
The VE team will make every effort to accommodate persons with special needs, such as visually impaired testing. However, you are encouraged to contact either of the two VE team liaisons well in advance to advise us of any special needs you may have.
