Lowering the Front End...
The front end was easy to lower. The frist time it was done, Tweek raised the front of the bike from the floor, removed the upper chrome fork covers and plugs, and removed one turn at the time from the front springs until the height matched the amount of the lowered rear. For my setup, the front springs had 4 1/2 turns removed from each. I rode this setup for about 30,000 miles with great results.
The bike still rode nicely, however Tweek is never satisfied with anything. He runs Progressive 1126's in the front of his heavily loaded 800 Classic. My bike is much lighter (so am I!), and he thought a set of progressively wound springs with a lighter preload than the Progressive 1126's would be more appropriate for my bike. After a bit of testing, he found the Cobra lowering kit for the VN1500A/B/C to be more correct for my bike. He purchased the Cobra #06-2743 lowering kit, and swapped out my shortened springs with them. Wow...and even SMOOTHER ride...I never thought that possible. You can order these springs, and see many other styles of lowering kits at Scootworks on their Lowering Kits/Suspension page.
