Kuryakyn Longhorn Brake Pedal
The Kuryakin Longhorn Brake Pedal is a nice looking addition, and pretty easy to install. The Kuryakyn part # is 8044, and is called the 'Longhorn Brake Pedal Pad'. You can buy them from Scootworks on their Brake Pedal page. The pedal cover is secured by a single 1/4-20 bolt, but very solid. Tweek has had one on his bike since about mid-1998, and has never had any problems with it coming loose. You can see his brake pedal by CLICKING HERE. Click HERE to see the Longhorn as installed on my Scootworks Brake Pedal. The simple installation instructions are below:
First, peel off the old rubber pad, exposing the metal backing plate.
Next, lift off the one unattached rubber pad from the Kuryakin pedal. This exposes the mounting hole in the pedal.
You'll notice that the pedal has a rectangular recess in the underside. Place it on the stock brake pedal's backing plate, where you removed the rubber pad. Look beneath the backing plate, you'll notice the large metal "boss". Center the hole in the brake pedal over the boss, and mark the plate. Drill a 13/64" dia hole all the way down through the backing plate and the large metal boss. Next, tap the hole to 1/4-20 (to match the bolt supplied with the brake pedal). Attach the pedal with the supplied bolt, peel the top layer from the adhesive pad applied on the rubber insert, and install the insert over the securing bolt.
This is a picture from below the pedal, of the completed installation. You can also install the pedal without having to drill and tap threads into the large boss (This is what Tweek did on his bike). This is somewhat easier...slip the pedal over to the right, so that the mounting hole completely misses the large boss. Drill a hole through the plate, and secure the bolt below the backing plate with a nut. Personally, I think the installation outlined above is much cleaner, as it completely hides the mounting hardware, although it does require a bit more work.
